The story may however be rooted in a particular known historical event or many events.
These are true life stories. Both the character and the events are real. That is, they were not imagined. Non-fiction can further be classified into two – Biography and Autography.

This feature refers to the arrangement or the design of events in a story. The term is used to describe how the events are arranged. The arrangement can be made chronological order i.e how the events happen one after the other from the beginning to the end or through various forms of flashback methods. It can also be made episodic. That is, creating various episodes for the story.
Setting is the background against which the story is written. It shows the time, the location, the people of the area where the event has taken place, their occupation, cultures, beliefs and state of being.
It refers to the main or central ideas of the work. A theme can be identified as the major, minor or sub. The major theme is the central idea or the preoccupation of the author while other themes are classified as minor or sub themes.
These are the persons who carry out the actions in a story. There are different types of characters in a story. These are the major characters and the minor characters.
The major characters include the protagonists and the antagonists. They are usually referred to as round character because they appear in the story from beginning to the end.

The style is determined through the use of language, the type of language used, i.e simple or complex, sophisticated or crude, etc. The style may also be determined through the plot design or something other idiosyncratic features.
Prose Appreciation:
Appreciation according to every man’s encyclopedia refers to the “understanding of the good quality or worth of something”. Literary appreciation therefore means understanding the focus and quantity of a literary work. It is the discovery and identification of the strength and weakness of a work of art or literary work. Thus, in literary appreciation and criticism, one is expected to First understand the purpose of writing. That is, he needs to examine how certain elements are established and put together to form the story before he can objectively criticize the literary work.
